Coffee with Excellence. That’s Non-Fiction Coffee!

There’s something special about enjoying a delicious cup of coffee.  Most people get serious about their choice in coffees.  They look forward to the aroma and taste as well as the happy state of mind that comes with that morning cup of Joe, not to mention increased energy levels and more.

Non-Fiction Coffee is making its way into restaurants and homes all across the American southeast with their robust operations.  Located in Birmingham, Alabama with a small team of seven people and growing, this company just celebrated their 6th anniversary with relationships at the heart of what they do. Besides the perk of enjoying excellent coffee, the majority of their days entail roasting coffee, comparing prospective coffees and actively pursuing ways to bring value to their customers.

This coffee company has a roasting style all their own with a wide variety of coffees from farms in Peru, Ethiopia, Guatemala and Honduras to name a few.  Roasting coffee with excellence is at the forefront of what they do.  With organic produce crucial to the sustaining of farms and our environment, Non-Fiction Coffee encourages their coffee producers to follow organic farming practices.  Many of the producers are small farmers with fairly simple green coffee operations.  Whether certified or not, Non-Fiction Coffee works with each farmer to ensure that they provide coffees that are grown and harvested naturally and organically.

Most of these farmers and their products have a story to tell.  We invite you to learn more about each farmer and coffee blend.  Cascavel Vermelha from Brazil is smooth and balanced with a fully, creamy mouthfeel and a pleasant fruit sweetness reminiscent of cherries.  Guatemala Farmer’s Select lends a hint of dark honey and vanilla bean with a subtle fruit tone that resembles sweet, juicy pears.  The Thailand Medium Roast provides a balanced and smooth coffee, which is characterized by a peanut butter and almond flavor profile with a subtle, but delightful complexity.  The decaffeinated coffees are naturally processed to insure a great deal of sweetness, complexity and balance in each cup.  Columbia Raquel Lasso Gesha, Anthology and Honduras: Honey are among other coffee blends available to explore.

From bold, dark roast and incredibly complex to light roast offerings, Non-Fiction Coffee’s mission to give back to local non-profit organizations and meaningful causes is unique.  Oftentimes, when you see a coffee company that touts a give-back component to their brand, the coffee is often little to write home about.  Non-Fiction Coffee purposefully prioritizes giving back and roasting exceptional coffees equally.  Honoring coffee producers and supporting those who are making our communities a better place stand at the core values of this family-owned business.

From bold, dark roast and incredibly complex to light roast offerings, Non-Fiction Coffee’s mission to give back to local non-profit organizations and meaningful causes is unique.

While it denotes buying local produce directly from the grower, the Farm to Table Movement is integral to how Non-Fiction Coffee functions as a business.  Buying coffee with the knowledge that Gregorio Torre, for example, worked tirelessly to produce it, makes all the difference in the world.  Great produce is great produce when real people skillfully grow and harvest it with their hands.  Having seen firsthand the labor required to harvest coffee, Non-Fiction will never take a bag of hand-grown coffee for granted.  Coffee that has been recently harvested is vibrant and complex, similar to how a fresh strawberry or fresh tomato can be one thousand times more flavorful than one that is past its prime.  That’s why all Non-Fiction Coffee bean orders are roasted fresh just prior to shipping.

Non-Fiction Coffee realizes that a great deal of awareness must be raised for significant change and the importance of working together to revitalize the movement of Farm to Table. One business alone is simply not enough to impart that change. Often farm to table products are not convenient.  Access and price points can be barriers for consumers.  There are commercialized products in every store, but true, fresh produce is not always easy to come by.  If we as businesses can come together to provide our communities with access to fresh, hand-grown produce and build awareness to the impact made from the purchase of farm to table produce, then we believe we will see true change in the way people perceive and purchase their food.

Professional Chef Jason Mullenix understands this and works very hard to purchase home-grown meat, dairy, vegetables and other produce directly from the grower for every meal he and his talented team prepares.  He seeks out local farmers on a daily basis to learn about their products and offerings to bring you the best of the best as he prepares each high-quality meal with care.  He understands the need in building quality relationships not only with you as the client, but with each of his food producers as valued members of the Magic City Chef’s extended team.

Chef Jason’s goal is to bring you and your family back to the table with a uniquely designed cooking experience that provides multiple entrees and side dishes prepared in your own kitchen.  Each dish is specifically chosen and prepared according to your particular culinary needs and wants so you can enjoy an extraordinary dinner with your family and friends in the comfort and privacy of your own home.

Chef Jason loves to bring you stories about each of the small businesses and individuals found locally to increase awareness of the farm to table movement and food producers that you may not know about.  It’s with great pride that Chef Jason recommends Non-Fiction Coffee.  Non-Fiction Coffee offers local pick-up at their warehouse in Pelham, AL or your order may be shipped through their online store.  Coffee and merchandise such as t-shirts, coffee cups and gift cards are available for purchase.
